In addition to her performance at the upcoming VMAs, she is nominated for four Moon Person trophies: Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration for TQG with Karol G, and Best Latin Song for TQG and Acróstico. The 2023 VMAs are set to be broadcast live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on September 12.

The Video Vanguard Award, previously won by music legends like David Bowie, Madonna, and Beyoncé, now belongs to Shakira as the first South American artist to receive this prestigious accolade.

The talented singer, known for hits like Whenever, Wherever and Hips Don’t Lie, previously won a VMA for Ojos Asi in the International Viewer’s Choice category. She also took home the Best Choreography award for the Hips Don’t Lie video in 2006 and won another VMA in 2007 for her collaboration with Beyoncé on Beautiful Liar. Alongside Shakira, other talented performers such as Demi Lovato, Karol G, MÃ¥neskin, and Stray Kids are set to grace the stage at the VMAs.

Notably, this year’s list of nominees includes a record-breaking number of first-time nominees, with Ice Spice, GloRIlla, Petras, and boygenius among the impressive 35 newcomers.
